The weather was gorgeous for this year's Fall Peddler Day at the Pattison Area Volunteer Fire Department. It was a successful fundraiser with lots of support from the community, the attendees, and event sponsors. Here is a glimpse of the day in this brief video slideshow.
If you would like to see more photographs taken during the Fall Peddler Day,
The PAVFD had a great showing with their racing lawnmower winning first place in the Keep Waller County Beautiful sponsored lawn mower races at the 2011 Pattison Car Show. The intently focused driver is PAVFD's Andrew Crofton.
Also, if you live in the rural areas around Pattison and you don't have a street number sign on your property, the PAVFD can get you your street number sign in the offical blue color for small fee. Like the poster sign made by the PAVFD says, "IF WE CAN"T FIND YOU - WE CAN'T HELP YOU".
We sure if you see Fireman Crofton, please pat him on the back and tell him thank you for his volunteerism and support to the Pattison Area Volunteer Fire Department, and nudge him with a grin and a wink about his new lawn mower racing career.

You may have noticed lots of activity at the PAVFD recently. They are installing new Energy Star appliances and upgrading their old HVAC unit to be more energy efficient. This includes low-flow toilets, replacing the old high-energy-consuming lighting fixtures with new energy saving fluorescent lighting fixtures, and replacing the old originally installed insulation with new energy conserving insulation. Everything that was purchased was to replace old and non-energy efficient components. (In case you remember the local newspaper's reporting error, they did NOT replace energy-efficient applicances with new energy applicances.) This is part of the State Energy Conservation Office's (SECO) grant that was awarded to the City of Pattison for American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The Federal Grant Title: Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant. Alderman Sandy Buller of the Pattison City Council authored the grant in 2009.
From just speculation, the potential energy savings that the PAVFD will experience by replacing the current HVAC unit with the new energy efficient computerized units will be drastic. Once everything is installed and working as expected, when the first electric bill comes in that will be the measurement of success for this whole project.
The PAVFD started this project back in October 2010 and it looks like they are getting close to wrapping this project up. Just in time for their annual fundraiser in September. Mark your calendars for Sept. 10th, 2011 - more details to follow.
